Osofo Kyiri Abosom, a Ghanaian pastor and founder of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), talked about his incredible path of self-funding his Senior High School (SHS) education.
He approached the school’s matron as a young man in financial need, offering to give her cocoyam leaves (Kontomire) in exchange for money for his tuition.
According to Osofo Kyiri Abosom, the matron approved the plan despite being aware of his circumstances.
Since I didn’t have a caregiver on my first day of school, I went to speak with the matron about the matter.
He said, “I told her that I’m from a village and that I could give her cocoyam leaves (kontomire) to generate money to pay my schooling, and she consented.
The man of God claimed that during his academic career, he was financially supported for five years by the sale of cocoyam leaves, which he dutifully provided to the matron every Wednesday and Thursday.
In an interview with Kingdom FM in Accra, he remarked, “So I supplied her [matron] with three sacks of cocoyam leaves every Wednesday and Thursday for five years until I completed school.”
Osofo Kyiri Abosom claimed he excelled academically and was awarded a scholarship in spite of the financial difficulties.
