Moro Musah, a 33-year-old farmer, has been detained by Tumu Police for allegedly stealing livestock in October 2023 in Kroboi, Sissala East Municipality, Upper West Region.
In a cautionary statement filed to the Circuit Court in Wa, the accused, Moro Musah, agreed to the crime but stated, “I stole 14 of the cattle, not the reported 60.”
He was brought before the court, purportedly charged with stealing 60 cattle, and was placed in police prison awaiting an inquiry.
This followed a complaint filed with the Tumu Police by Barry Abdoulaye, a Fulani herder from Yigantu in Sissala East, who reported the theft of his 60 animals.
The prosecution, ACP Albert Adiita, presented the facts before the court, stating that on October 29, 2023, the Wellembele police vehicle patrol squad intercepted a Hyundai Grace mini-bus with registration number AS-6743-19, operated by Wakilu Abubakari and laden with three animals suspected of theft.
When questioned, Abubakari identified Musah as the person who had instructed him to take the animals from Kroboi to Wa.
A following phone call between Abubakari and Musah proved the latter’s ownership of the livestock.
During the investigation, the vehicle carrying the cattle was taken to the Wellembele Police Station, where the complainant, Barry Abdoulaye, discovered a characteristic mark on three of the bulls that matched some of his stolen livestock.
ACP Adiita stated that a subsequent check of Abdoulaye’s kraal discovered identical marks on his other animals, validating Musah’s allegation of theft.
However, the search for Musah was useless until December 8, 2023, when he was caught by police, according to ACP Adiita.
Following interrogation, the accused returned the 14 livestock, but the search for the remaining cattle continued.
The accused was remanded to return on April 16, 2024.
