Switzerland and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Granit Xhaka has opened up about his deep connection to Africa, revealing that one of his closest friends hails from Ghana and Togo.

During a recent interview, the former Arsenal captain expressed his admiration for African culture and people, citing their kindness and respect for others as qualities he holds dear.

“I grew up surrounded by African people, and one of my best friends is from Ghana and Togo,” Xhaka shared.

The 28-year-old has had the privilege of playing alongside some of Africa’s top talents in his career. During his time at Arsenal, Xhaka shared the pitch with Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey. Now at Bayer Leverkusen, he calls Nigerian striker Victor Boniface and Nigerian winger Nathan Tella his teammates.

Xhaka’s revelation came after Bayer Leverkusen secured the German Bundesliga title on Sunday, marking a milestone in his career.
