Safo Newman appeared on the music scene abruptly late last year with his song “Akokoa.” He gained a lot of attention on social media and amassed a sizable number of streams on a variety of platforms.
Some internet users, such as rap legend Sarkodie, are showered with compliments about “Ghana’s new kid on the block” for his talent and lovely song, while others just keep hurling insults and derogatory remarks at Newman. The early-30s singer claims he is unfazed by the online trolls, though.
Speaking with the Daily Graphic, Newman said that while he had read the offensive remarks, which included, among other things, descriptions of him as underweight and disheveled, he was not at all concerned about them because his music was what really mattered to him.
He declared his intention to focus all of his energy on creating timeless music instead of obsessing over the criticism he received.
I’m not very worried by remarks others make about my appearance or how I look. In fact, I think that makes me unique in several ways. I don’t let those criticisms of my appearance get to me down. The songs I write and the messages they portray, together with the good effects I may have on society, are what really matter to me,” the artist stated.
Thanks to his hit song Akokoa, Safo Newman is currently enjoying his moment in the spotlight. Sarkodie, the legendary Ghanaian rapper, is largely responsible for his rise to prominence.
His song is still getting airplay and garnering a lot of attention, especially after Sarkodie declared it to be a huge hit. As of right now, it is the ninth most streamed song in Ghana on Audiomack.
He acknowledged that he was still adjusting to his new position, but he promised to use the platform to become one of the most sought-after musicians the nation had ever seen.
“I’ve finally had the chance to meet Sarkodie, whose support of my song opened doors for me. I am excited to accomplish incredible things with him because this is just the beginning of even bigger things to come. Although being in the spotlight these days has been quite overwhelming for me, I love it and I’ll take advantage of the chance to have a bigger influence,” he continued.
The up-and-coming musical sensation also goes by the hat of a committed teacher. Giving insight into how he balanced his love of music with his dedication to schooling, he said balancing both positions hadn’t presented any major difficulties.
For him, it all comes down to staying focused and creating a timetable that accommodates his two hobbies.
It all comes down to staying balanced and focused. I try to balance my two passions in life—music and teaching—by blending them together as best I can,” he stated.
The singer stated that he was very hopeful about the future and that he would like a team to help manage him effectively. The artist has not yet secured a management team for his music career.
Nevertheless, he reaffirmed that he was committed to creating excellent music and carrying out his teaching responsibilities even in the absence of a formal management structure.
He remarked, “At the moment, I am handling everything on my own, and I am hoping that I get a management team that will assist me in doing things more effectively.”
