Significant advancements have been made on several fronts, according to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, despite difficulties the administration has had keeping its commitments to the voters.
He said that among the many promises given to Ghanaians by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration, during the campaign trail and in its platform, was not the goal of making Ghana a flawless nation.
In an interview on the Face-To-Face program, the MP, who also serves as the Minister of Information, stated to Citi News in Accra that while they are not perfect, they have come a long way since they began in January 2017.
In terms of the obligations and promises we made, we have also made great strides. Furthermore, compared to our colleagues [NDC], we have achieved great progress,” he continued.
He brought up various economic indicators, such as inflation, which spiked up to 54% a few months ago but has since steadily decreased.
He emphasized, “You can see that we are moving forward if you consider the pattern and our historical background. Though we still have a ways to go, we are moving in the right direction.
The economic downturn that began in 2020 has been one of this government’s largest problems.
The downturn in the Ghanaian economy in recent years has been a hot topic due to raging inflation, declining currency value, and a general decline in the standard of living combined with high living expenses.
Before agreeing to a US$3 billion IMF loan last year, of which US$600 million as tranche one has been credited to the government account, the government repeatedly pointed the finger at the fallout from COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war.
