Madi, who was born in Shebaa, South Lebanon, in 1938, is frequently cited in relation to both Islamic abstract art and contemporary European artists such as Matisse and Picasso. With swift strokes of his broad brush, Madi drew a woman’s silhouette across the canvas.

During his lifetime, Madi was awarded multiple accolades, including the Sursock Museum’s 5th Salon Prize for Painting (1965–1966), the Italian Cultural Center’s 8th Salon’s Prize for Sculpture (1968–1969), and the Citta di Lecce, Italy, First Prize for Engraving (1974). In 1982 and 1992, he served as President of the Association of Lebanese Artists.
