Husband of Late Doctor Teresa Sievers Convicted and Sentenced to Death
The murder case of Dr. Teresa Sievers, a beloved doctor whose life was tragically cut short, took a significant turn when her husband, Mark Sievers, was arrested for her homicide.
Mark Sievers is currently incarcerated at the Union Correctional Institution in Raiford, Florida, awaiting his death row sentence for orchestrating his late wife’s murder. Dr. Sievers was found dead at her and Mark’s home in Bonita Springs, Florida, on June 29, 2015.
In addition to Mark Siever’s involvement, his co-conspirators, Jimmy Ray Rodgers and Curtis Wayne Wright, are also serving time for their roles in Teresa’s murder. The trio’s crime gained national attention and has been featured in various crime documentaries, including Dateline NBC’s The Road Trip and CBS 48 Hours’ episode, The Plot to Kill Dr. Sievers.
Mark Sievers’ legal team recently filed an appeal against his death sentence on February 10, 2020. However, on November 17, 2022, his appeal was denied, and his sentence was upheld.
During his trial, Mark Sievers maintained his innocence and made a plea to the court for a life sentence, citing the impact on his daughters, Josephine and Carmela, who had already lost their mother. Teresa’s mother, Mary Ann Groves, also gave a victim impact statement in court expressing the profound loss felt by the family and the pain experienced by Teresa’s daughters.
Police suspected Mark from the beginning of the investigation but noted his initial cooperation. However, as the case progressed, his reluctance to cooperate and suspicious behavior, such as disposing of computers at Teresa’s medical office, raised red flags. An anonymous tip from Taylor Shomaker, Rodgers’ girlfriend, provided crucial information that linked Mark to the crime. Rodgers and Wright’s GPS technology tracking further confirmed their involvement and eventually led to Mark’s arrest on February 26, 2016.
The community continues to mourn the loss of Dr. Teresa Sievers, a compassionate doctor whose life was ended in a senseless act of violence. The resolution of this case brings a sense of justice for her family and loved ones as they continue to navigate the aftermath of this tragic event.
