Hunter Reynolds was an American pioneering artist whose groundbreaking work chronicled the immense loss wrought by HIV/AIDS, has died at 62. Reynolds as previously stated died on June 12 at his home in Manhattan. He was 62. It has however not been disclosed by the family of the late Reynolds, his cause of death as of July 2022, but according to Wendy Olsoff, a founder of the P.P.O.W. gallery in TriBeCa, Reynolds cause of death was an aggressive form of squamous cell carcinoma – a second most common form of skin cancer, characterized by abnormal, accelerated growth of squamous cells.
He was an early member of ACT UP, and in 1989 co-founded Art Positive, an affinity group of ACT-UP to fight homophobia and censorship in the arts. For over two and half decades, he has been using performance, photography, and installations to express his experience as an HIV-positive gay man living in the age of AIDS.
