Steven Patrick Morrissey was born on 22 May 1959. He is known professionally as Morrissey, and he is an English singer and songwriter. He came to prominence as the frontman and lyricist of the rock band the Smiths, who were active from 1982 to 1987.
Morrissey is a vocal advocate of animal welfare and animal rights issues. He has been a vegetarian since the age of 11 and has explained his vegetarianism by saying that “if you love animals, obviously it doesn’t make sense to hurt them”. Morrissey announced in 2015 that he is a vegan.
