After receiving his law degree, Elder joined the Cleveland law firm Squire, Sanders & Dempsey. In 1980, he founded Laurence A. Elder and Associates to address the market for legal executive search.
Larry Elder stopped managing Elder & Associates in 1987, but he continued to be the business’s owner until 1995. According to the Supreme Court of Ohio Attorney Directory website, Elder has been administratively barred from the practice of law in Ohio since December 2005 as a result of failing to submit the required paperwork.

The program debuted in 1993 as a local program on Los Angeles radio station KABC and remained there until 2008, then returned from 2010 to 2014. Initially through ABC Radio Networks from 2002 to 2007, and subsequently through Salem Media Group from 2015 until 2022, the program is nationally syndicated.
He still has connections to the Falun Gong movement’s far-right newspaper, The Epoch Times.
