Born in South Korea on November 22, 1978, Karen Lee Orzolek is an American singer, musician, and composer. She sings lead for the independent rock group Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
She was the daughter of a Polish father and a Korean mother, and she was born in Seoul, South Korea. Later, the family relocated to Englewood, New Jersey, where she was raised and completed her education at the Dwight-Englewood School and The Elisabeth Morrow School.
It’s almost embarrassing how well-behaved I was as a youngster, she said about her upbringing, which is perhaps why I do things like spew water on myself on stage as an adult.
She attended Oberlin College before moving to the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
