Blaine was born in Brooklyn, New York City. He is the son of a single mother, Patrice White, a teacher with Russian Jewish origin, and a Vietnam War soldier with Italian and Puerto Rican ancestry.

When Blaine was four years old, he witnessed a magician perform magic tricks on the train. His lifelong passion was kindled by this.

He was brought up by his mother and went to a Brooklyn-based Montessori school.

Having already been encased in ice, stood on a 100ft pole and ‘drowned alive’ in water for days on end, perhaps David is just fattening up for another stunt.
