On October 27, 1997, Mariah Amani Buckles was born in Atlanta, Georgia. She attended St. John’s University in New York City with the intention of becoming an anesthesiologist after dropping out of Southwest DeKalb High School a year early. She later decided, however, to pursue music instead.
When Mariah joined the chorus at her elementary school, she began singing. While she was attending St. John’s University in New York on a biology scholarship, she began writing songs. She eventually quit school to concentrate on her music career. Her stage name came from Mariah’s genuine enthusiasm for science. She released her first six-track EP, To Die For, in January 2018.
