Actress Anya-Josephine Marie Taylor-Joy was born on April 16, 1996. She has received numerous honors, including a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a Primetime Emmy Award nomination. She was listed among Time magazine’s 100 Next in 2021.

Taylor-Joy, who was born in Miami and was raised in Buenos Aires and London, stopped attending school when she was 16 to focus on her acting career. After appearing in minor television roles, she made her cinematic debut in the horror movie The Witch (2015). She then starred in Split (2016), Glass (2019), and the black comedy Thoroughbreds (2017). She was the recipient of the 2017 Cannes Film Festival’s Trophée Chopard.

Taylor-Joy appeared in the fifth and sixth seasons of Peaky Blinders (2019-2022), as well as Emma Woodhouse in the period drama Emma (2020), for which she received a Golden Globe nomination.

In 2020, she won a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award for her performance as chess prodigy Beth Harmon in the Netflix miniseries The Queen’s Gambit. Taylor-Joy has since appeared in the films Last Night in Soho (2021), The Northman, and The Menu (both 2022), for which she received another Golden Globe nomination.

Taylor-Joy lived in Buenos Aires with her family and attended Northlands School until the age of six when the family moved to the Victoria district of London. She is bilingual (Spanish and English). Taylor-Joy described the move as “traumatic,” and she refused to learn English in the hopes of returning to Argentina.
