Nicki Minaj, born Onika Tanya Maraj on December 8, 1982, in St. James, Trinidad, and Tobago, is a Trinidadian-born singer, songwriter, television personality, and actress known for her flowing, quick-spoken rap style, and provocative lyrics. She complemented her music with a bold persona that included colorful wigs and risqué clothing. Maraj was about five years old when her family relocated from Trinidad and Tobago to Queens, New York.
