Nana Poku Bra, a spokesperson at the Manhyia Palace, has announced that the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has contributed a whooping $5 million to the ‘Heal the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital’ program.
This was revealed during a debate with Sompa FM’s Omanhene adu Boakye, who brought up the accusation and sought clarification from royal palace representatives.
The topic of Otumfuo’s offering arose during previous discussions about plans for the Asantehene’s 25th anniversary.
The host of Sompa FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ show stated, “We are told that the Asantehene donated $5 million.” “5 million dollars!”
Nana Poku Bra replied: “Yes, his personal support.”
Intrigued by the confirmation, Omanhene Adu Boakye said, “Do you know how much one million dollars is worth in cedis?” It costs 130 billion Ghana cedis. “So, multiply this by five.”
The host went on to mock those who have subsequently chastised the Asantehene for ‘pleading for monies’ to renovate the hospital rather than just funding it.
To him, no traditional king in Ghana can generate such a large sum to support a project, and Otumfuo is living up to his name.
“If a ruler of this level speaks, people criticize him. How many individuals can contribute this amount? Which kingdom in Ghana? Then some foolish individuals would believe that the Asantehene is begging for funding to develop the project,” he said.
