María de Montserrat Bibiana Concepción Caballé i Folch was a Spanish operatic soprano.
She was born on April 12, 1933, in Barcelona, Spain to her parents Ana Folch and Carlos Caballé.
Maria sang a wide variety of roles but is best known as an exponent of the works of Verdi and the bel canto repertoire, notably the works of Rossini, Bellini, and Donizetti.
She was a mother of two children – a son and a daughter namely Montserrat Martí and Bernabé Martí Jr.
She died on October 6, 2018, in Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, Barcelona, Spain after battling a stroke.
