The tragic death of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins on March 26 devastated music fans all around the world.
His unwavering energy, paired with a laid-back charisma onstage and off, made him the ideal foil for frontman Dave Grohl and his band of rock torchbearers for a quarter-century.
Hawkins’ big break, however, came as the backbone of Alanis Morissette’s touring band as she transitioned from emerging Canadian pop star to a new kind of world-renowned singer/songwriter, not with the Foos.
Matching the multiplatinum album’s raw intensity was no easy assignment, but Hawkins made it appear effortless and joyful, much like he did with Foo Fighters.
How did Taylor Hawkins meet Alanis Morissette?
Alanis’ manager, Scott Welch, introduced the two musicians.
Hawkins was only 23 years old at the time, and he was working with another Canadian roker named Sass Jordan.
Hawkins was provided a cassette of several of the songs from Jagged Little Pill to learn ahead of a tryout to serve as Alanis’ drummer, and their friendly connection blossomed into a serious musical partnership not long after.
