American music and film legend Michael Lee Aday, known in show business as Meat Loaf, has passed away. He died on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at the age of 74.

His death was announced by his management team via his official Facebook page.

Born in Dallas on September 27, 1947, Meat Loaf’s two biggest albums, Bat out of Hell and Bat out of Hell II: Back into Hell, gave him numerous hit singles including Paradise by the Dashboard Light, Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad and I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That) in the 90s.

He has won many prestigious awards, including Grammy in 1993 for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance for the song I’d Do Anything for Love.

Announcing his death, his management said their hearts are broken. The statement said he died with his wife Deborah by his side.

“Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight with his wife Deborah by his side,” the statement said.

It added: “Daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends have been with him throughout the last 24 hours.”

No cause of death was shared but in 2016, the singer collapsed at a concert in the Canadian city of Edmonton and was admitted to the hospital. The cause was dehydration, a spokesperson said at the time.

He is survived by his wife Deborah and two children; Pearl and Amanda.

Update: It’s been confirmed that Meat Loaf died from Covid complications.
