Dahmer was born on May 21, 1960, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the first of two sons of Joyce Annette (née Flint; February 7, 1936 – November 27, 2000), a teletype machine instructor, and Lionel Herbert Dahmer (born July 29, 1936), a Marquette University chemistry student and later a research chemist.
Lionel Dahmer is of German and Welsh origin, and Joyce Dahmer is of Norwegian and Irish ancestry. According to some reports, Dahmer was neglected as an infant. Other reports, however, claim that Dahmer was largely spoiled as a baby and toddler by both parents, despite the fact that his mother was known to be tense, eager for both attention and sympathy, and combative with her husband and their neighbors.
Dahmer moved out of his grandmother’s house and into 924 North 25th Street, Apartment 213, on May 14, 1990, taking Sears’ mummified head and genitals with him. Despite being in a high-crime neighborhood, the apartment was near his business, furnished and affordable at $300 per month inclusive of all costs except electricity. Dahmer murdered his sixth victim, Raymond Smith, within a week after moving into his new flat. Smith, a 32-year-old male prostitute, was persuaded into Apartment 213 by Dahmer’s promise of $50 for sex. Inside the apartment, he drank a cocktail laced with seven sleeping tablets before strangling him.
How did Jeffrey Dahmer convince his grandmother about the smell from her cellar?
Jeffrey tells the officers that his grandma ultimately became aware of an unusual odor. He stated that he began triple bagging the severed corpse pieces to avoid the odor from then on. He goes into greater detail regarding his method of disposing of the bodies. Compulsion, he claims, had “taken over” at that time. He then asks if he can “get the electric chair.” The cops merely encourage Jeffrey to keep talking. They inquire whether Grandma was aware of what was going on. Clearly, the elderly lady suspected something was wrong with her grandson, but she refused to confess or acknowledge Jeffrey was gay, despite watching him bring men home at night.
Grandma complained about the stench, but Jeffrey blamed it on his taxidermy. That didn’t stop the odor. Jeffrey then blamed it on a dead raccoon under the porch. And granny dealt with it somehow. Probably trying to intentionally convince herself that nothing was seriously wrong with Jeffrey. Things got even worse when Grandma discovered Jeffrey’s small Satanic altar in the closet. That was too much for her. Then Lionel arrived to the house, eager to see and learn everything. Jeffrey showed his father around the improvised workshop downstairs, which had been mostly cleaned up save for some disgusting stuff near a drain in the floor. It was passed off as “skunk sludge” from an acid experiment Jeffrey performed. Furthermore, the altar was misrepresented as “comic book demon crap” from a movie. Dad believed there was nothing wrong with Jeffrey Dahmer.
