“Maury never paid attention to me,” Chung said. “You know, I’d rip wire copy from the wire machines and give it to him.”
Seven years later, in 1977, they reconnected on the West Coast. Chung was the star this time. “Co-anchor, second banana,” Povich described himself. “And she was a big star in Los Angeles.”

“But at the same time, this was a very fortuitous moment,” Povich said, “because in 1995, when she was removed from the ‘CBS Evening News,’ the next day we find out that we’re going to adopt this little boy.”
