A housekeeper in Accra has been sentenced to ten years in jail with hard labor for attempting to rob his employer’s cars.
The 27-year-old housekeeper, Elijah Nagbo, pleaded guilty with an explanation and was convicted and sentenced by the Accra Circuit Court Six.
The incident involved a building contractor and Tantra Hill resident, Mr. Awuah Amponsah, who reported to the police that Nagbo had conspired to steal his Honda CR-V, Toyota Corolla, and KIA Cerato vehicles with the intention of selling them in Tema. Nagbo’s alleged accomplice, Joel, is currently on the run.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Emmanuel Nyamekye revealed that Nagbo had been working for the complainant since November 2023 and had been in communication with Joel, a friend from Jasikan in the Oti Region who now resides in Ashaiman. The duo had planned to kidnap the complainant and his wife, who are elderly, and hold them captive while stealing their vehicles.
Nagbo had even gone to the extent of taking photos of the vehicles and forwarding them to a potential buyer in Tema. The police investigation also uncovered that Nagbo knew where the keys to the vehicles were kept, indicating a well-thought-out plan to carry out the theft.
