On August 24, House of the Dragon, which has already been renewed for a second season, became the most-watched HBO/HBO Max TV or film premiere in Europe in the network’s history.

Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, its main competition, is also shattering records for Amazon Prime Video as the battle of the prequels goes worldwide.

The third episode of House of the Dragon premiered on Sky in the early hours of yesterday.

According to Sky, the first episode of the prequel was seen by slightly more than million people, surpassing the debut of the first Game of Thrones in 2011.
This statistic puts House of the Dragon on par with Netflix’s Stranger Things and Disney+’s Obi Wan-Kenobi, according to UK rating agency Barb.

“Momentum behind House of the Dragon just keeps growing, as more and more people spread the word about its ever-current tale of political power play mixed with epic size and creative imagery,” said Sky MD of Content Zai Bennett. “And, owing to Sky’s decision to make the first episode free to watch on YouTube, more people than ever before will be able to experience the world-class realm of Westeros.”
