Hollywood legend Donald Sutherland passes away at 88

Legendary actor Donald Sutherland, known for his iconic roles in Hollywood blockbusters spanning over seven decades, has passed away at the age of 88.

Sutherland, who most recently mesmerized audiences with his portrayal of President Snow in The Hunger Games series, died in Miami, Florida from an undisclosed long illness.

The Canadian-born actor leaves behind a remarkable legacy, having starred in over 140 movies and TV shows in a career that saw him play a diverse range of characters, from romantic leads to villains and mentor figures. Sutherland’s versatility in acting earned him critical acclaim and numerous accolades, including an Emmy and Golden Globe award.

Sutherland’s son, Emmy Award-winning actor Kiefer Sutherland, paid a heartfelt tribute to his father on social media, describing him as “one of the most important actors in the history of film.” Kiefer fondly remembered his father’s passion for his craft and his fearlessness in taking on any role.

Born on July 17, 1935, Sutherland first shot to fame in the war movie classic The Dirty Dozen in 1967. He went on to establish himself as one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood, collaborating with renowned directors and actors throughout his illustrious career.

Despite his numerous contributions to cinema, it is worth noting that Sutherland was never nominated for an Academy Award, although he received an Academy Honorary Award in 2017.
