The Emmys, television’s most prestigious prizes, will be presented in Los Angeles on Monday night.
The event has had a low-key build-up, with certain pre-show celebrations cancelled in mourning the passing of Queen Elizabeth II last week.
The British Film and Television Academy cancelled its usual Hollywood tea gathering for nominees, while the Canadian Consulate rescheduled their festivities.
The event will be held to commemorate the Queen’s passing.
It will be the first full-scale Emmys since the outbreak, hosted by Saturday Night Live comic Kenan Thompson. Last year’s event was held outside, with only a small number of people in attendance.
The Crown, the major winner last year, is not in the running for the 2022 awards. Netflix said last week that filming on the new season had been halted “as a gesture of respect” for the Queen.
In the heavily disputed best drama category, Succession is the favourite to replace it.
The show, created by British writer Jesse Armstong, has received the most nominations of any programme, with 25 in total. It is a Machiavellian narrative of a family striving for control of a media empire.
It competes with the adolescent drama Euphoria, the drug cartel series Ozark, the Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul, the retro sci-fi drama Stranger Things, the Korean thriller Squid Game, the psychological coming-of-age series Yellowjackets, and the sci-fi mystery Severance.
Squid Game, in which misfits and criminals fight for cash in savage and lethal renditions of playground games, would be the first foreign-language series to win outstanding drama if it won.
