Armed robbers wielding AK-47 assault rifles struck terror in the hearts of commuters traveling on the Nwineso-Trabuom-Foase road in Ashanti on Friday morning. The robbers, estimated to be about six in number, targeted at least 10 vehicles ferrying traders to Kumasi around 5 a.m.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to Nhyira FM, the robbers created a roadblock at a section of the Nwineso Number 1-Trabuom road. They proceeded to rob the commuters of their money, mobile phones, wedding rings, and other valuable possessions while ordering them to lie face down on the ground.

One of the victims recounted the terrifying encounter, stating that the robbers brandished assault rifles commonly used by the police and military. The victims were left shaken as the robbers attacked them individually whenever a vehicle approached the blockade.

The situation escalated as the robbers physically assaulted passengers, even stripping a woman in her 30s naked in search of hidden money. The victims were left traumatized by the brutal incident, with some sustaining injuries in the process.

The Nwineso-Trabuom-Foase road has seen a surge in robbery incidents, with another commuter recently losing their life to armed robbers. Despite the presence of a police patrol team on the route, the robbery occurred in the absence of law enforcement.

Concerns have been raised by the victims over the apparent absence of police during the robbery spree. The community remains on edge as residents fear for their safety on the increasingly dangerous road.
