An Accra High Court has taken a bold step by issuing a bench warrant for the arrest of CID Boss, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Faustina Agyeiwaa Kodua Andoh-Kwofie and the Director-General Legal and Prosecution unit of CID. This action was taken after the two officers failed to appear in court to face charges of contempt despite being duly served by Court officials.

The charges stem from a case filed by a car rental company, Sureword Global Outreach, against the Director General of CID and the Director General Legal and Prosecution unit. The court had previously ordered the release of a vehicle belonging to the applicant, which had been impounded by the Police. However, the Police refused to comply with the court order and also failed to show up in court despite several summons.

The background of the case dates back to November 14, 2023, when the Police impounded a vehicle after finding suspected illicit drugs in it. The vehicle belonged to Sure Rental, a sister company of Sureword Global Outreach, and was rented by a driver named Julius Noagbe. Despite the rental company’s plea for the release of their vehicle, the Police continued to hold on to it, causing financial losses to Sure Rental.

In light of this, the Achimota District Court ordered the release of the vehicle for investigative purposes, but the Police disregarded the court order. Subsequently, Sureword Global Outreach filed a contempt case at the High Court, leading to the arrest warrant for the CID Boss and the Director General of Legal and Prosecution unit.

During the court proceedings, Counsel for Sureword Global Outreach argued for the contempt charges, emphasizing that the respondents had blatantly disregarded the Court’s order despite being served. Justice Lydia Osei Marfo emphasized that no one is above the law and issued the warrant for the arrest of the two officers.

This case serves as a reminder that all individuals, regardless of their position, are subject to the law and must comply with court orders. It also highlights the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability within law enforcement agencies.
