Christian Atsu Twasam started his professional football career at Porto B in Portugal in 2011 before moving to the first team in the same year.
He has also played for other clubs such as Rio Ave, Vitesse, Everton, Bournemouth, Newcastle United, and Al-Raed FC.
Atsu has represented the Ghana national team at the youth and senior levels. He was part of the team that won the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup and played in the 2014 and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
Christian Atsu died in the earthquake that hit parts of Turkey and Syria on February 6, 2023.
Christian Atsu’s body was found in the ruins of a luxury 12-story building where he had been living in Antakya, Hatay province.
Atsu was brought to his homeland Ghana for final funeral rites to be performed.
The funeral scheduled to occur today, March 17, 2023, will take place at the forecourt of the state house, where Family, friends, Dignitaries and sympathizers are expected to pay their last respect to the footballer.
