Longtime Brooklyn Nets Official scorekeeper and a record-breaking NBA fixture Herb Turetzky, died at the age of 76 on Monday, April 4, 2022. Turetzky was synonymous with Nets Basketball for 5 years.
At Long Island University, Turetzky was a senior when he scored in the first game in franchise history. This took place on Oct. 23, 1967, when the New Jersey Americans of the American Basketball Association hosted the Pittsburgh Pipers, in Teaneck, New Jersey.
He score more than 2,200 games, a record for pro basketball that was certified in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Turetzky in 1,465 consecutive games worked in the regular season and playoffs. He began in New Jersey in the 1984-85 season and ended in Brooklyn in October 2018. He was honored by the Nets, giving him the title of official scorer emeritus and dedicating the scorer’s table at Barclays Center as the Herb Turetzky Scorer’s Table.”
