Henry Fambrough dies at 85: Cause of death and obituary information

Henry Fambrough, who co-founded the Spinners in Ferndale and was the group’s last surviving original, died Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at the age of 85.

Henry Fambrough died peacefully of natural causes in his northern Virginia home, spokesperson Tanisha Jackson said in a statement. The group was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in November. Along with Fambrough, Billy Henderson, Pervis Jackson, Bobby Smith, Philippé Wynne, and John Edwards were listed as inductees.

However, the Spinners formed in 1954 in Ferndale, Michigan as the Domingoes before changing their name to the Spinners. Fambrough was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1961, and on his return two years later, the Spinners signed up under Motown Records. They didn’t have any big hits for the next six years, and Fambrough ended up working as a chauffeur for the mother-of-label boss Berry Gordy Jr.

Henry Fambrough is survive by his wife of 52 years, Norma, and daughter Heather Williams.
