The uncommon amber notice, which affects a large portion of England and Wales, is meant to notify people of possible health and transportation difficulties brought on by the heat.
It coincides with the warmest day of the year with a temperature of 28.6C in Hawarden, Flintshire, Wales. Heathrow also reported a high of 31.2C. There have only ever been two instances of excessive heat warning.
The Met Office said that temperatures in central and southern England might reach as high as 33 degrees, although, for the most part, it would be dry and bright. Temperatures are expected to hit 38C in Madrid and 47C in Seville on Monday. France, Germany, and Italy could see the heat exceed 40C over the coming weekend.
The UK heatwave is so intense that it is currently igniting the train lines in Britain. Due to a fire on a bridge in Battersea, South London, between this morning’s train service had to be halted.
