‘He should have resigned after ‘betraying’ his government’ – Isaac Adongo

Isaac Adongo, MP for Bolgatanga Central, has chastised Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for distancing himself from the current administration’s faults.

According to him, Dr. Bawumia, who comes from a royal family, should comprehend the concept of collective responsibility and not distance himself from the council’s judgments.

Speaking at a live studio discussion on Onua TV on March 21, Isaac Adongo questioned Dr. Bawumia’s integrity for not resigning after making contentious remarks, accusing him of undermining the government while remaining a crucial member.

“You’re not in the government, so what else are you doing there? Any man with principles would have resigned the moment he became Akufo-Addo’s Judas.

“Bawumia is a prince, and it is not acceptable for him to free himself of council decisions. “There is something called collective responsibility, which means that once a group makes a decision, you cannot opt out,” he explained.

He further stated that Bawumia’s presidential bid is an attempt to compel Ghanaians into cleaning up the mess he allegedly caused with new taxes following the IMF’s bailout rejection and the loss of trust in the Eurobond market.

They said we’d produce 500k barrels of oil each day. We are in 2024; how many barrels can we manufacture each day? “That was a lie they told to get money from the whites,” the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Finance Committee charged.

Adongo further stated that Dr. Bawumia misled international creditors by making false claims regarding Ghana’s oil production potential, as well as criticizing his participation in imposing levies such as the E-Levy without publicly addressing them.

“With all of his economic prowess, this man (Bawumia) went Ghana to the IMF, and they (the IMF) wondered why we spent lavishly despite our need, and Bawumia stated we should establish a revenue mobilization strategy to collect our own money, which included the e-levy, betting tax, and energy VAT

“You’re blackmailing us to make you president to solve your mess. If he says he knows nothing about it, it is unacceptable. When the e-levy came, he refused to speak about it,” he added.
