Nikola Mektic chose to concentrate on doubles in 2016 after playing the greater part of a decade on the ATP challenger circuit and reaching a career-high singles ranking of No. 213 (on May 6, 2013).
At the 2016 Croatia Open Umag, he and his fellow countryman Antonio Ani made it to their first ATP men’s doubles final as a wildcard. Since then, he has won sixteen ATP men’s doubles championships, including the 2020 ATP Finals, one mixed double Grand Slam, six Masters 1000 titles, and one doubles Grand Slam.
