Manchester United’s center-back Harry Maguire is said to have liked a social media post about Cristiano Ronaldo being upset with Manchester United’s 25% wage cut.
According to reports, Ronaldo’s salary cut as a result of United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League contributed to his dramatic request to leave the club.
Along with millions of other social media users, his profile – @harrymaguire93 – double-tapped the post about Ronaldo.
However, if Ronaldo is denied a move away, his wages at Old Trafford will drop from £480k per week to a basic £360k weekly wage next season.
Maguire’s weekly salary on the other hand is currently £190,000, but a 25% pay cut would reduce that to about £147.5k.
The lack of new arrivals at United is said to be another reason Ronaldo wants to leave, as is his desire to play in the Champions League.
The 37-year-old was scheduled to return to Carrington for pre-season on Monday but had to cancel due to family obligations. And today is the third day that the Portuguese star has failed to appear at the club’s headquarters.
