Dhawan was, however, known to have been elected as a Member of Parliament from the Chandigarh constituency in 1989 and became Minister of Civil Aviation in the late Mr. Chandra Shekhar’s government.
Meanwhile, he was also a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and later joined the Aam Aadmi Party.
