Model Hamamat Montia has received a backlash after she shared a post about homosexuality in Africa on her instagram page.

On Tuesday, July 2, the former Miss Malaika queen put up what seems to be an ‘ambiguous’ post.

She shared a documentary titled “Zombies of Nairobi”, a 19-minute domentary about the  story of Kenya’s liquid drugs and their impact on street children.

She gave it the caption: “Happy Tuesday#KingsandQueens: In Africa we have deeper problems than being worried about someone being gay. African Riddle riddle : you have 2 options. Would you rather be: A. Gay and live in Europe or  B. Straight and live – like this – in Africa? This is why there is still a slave trade. Sniffing glue to forget that you are hungry ? I mean how ? When you live in the “Garden of Eden ” aka the “Motherland”. And wait, the presenter is white ? and he is speaking AFRICAN language? Wow! This is definitely #witchcraft. Sending love & Light to this presenter and his crew . Thank you so much for this – it slapped me in the face twice. May the spirit of #africa keep you moving safe and strong. This video is very strong and not for the faint hearted so if you will like to watch the full thing search Zombies of Kenya.I love #Kenya but 300,000 street children sniffing this is urgent – it is not just Kenya’s problem anymore. – it is Africa’s problem – it is every #black mans problem – it is our problem. #Wake-Up .If you think being Gay is so Evil how about how this man lives? Isn’t this evil? Your so called “AFRICAN standard “ is #Evil.”

Her caption didn’t sit well with some of her fans and followers who blasted her immediately.

A follower spiritualword wrote: “Your captions are becoming more and more ridiculous by the day on sensitive topics. They’re quite offensive. Either hire an Editor or just stick to promoting your products. Because #thisaintit beloved.”

“And then why now is being gay brought into the equation,” sharifa_keita wrote.

Another follower ‘lady_berde’ wrote: “I truly loved and tried to support you but with this caption and this whole “would you rather be gay or this do this”….. I think this is where I get off the boat…. so many of our African brothers and sisters are gay and living in silence because they fear for their livelihood both abroad and in their home countries. Alike we have many African brothers and sisters who are sprung out on drugs and hungry both abroad and in their home countries…. your caption offers no real dialogue this comparison offers no real dialogue or place for empathy or understanding. It breaks my heart honestly. There is a slave trade because of colonizers and capitalism world wide and your caption doesn’t even attempt to address that…. wow so disappointed.”

“Why is it…between being gay in Europe and straight bit living as a drug abuser?” heydiggler said.

“Sister hamamat if you really want Africans to give their ears and eyes to you by find solutions to African problems remove homosexuality from it.. Don’t let the American breeze persuade you too much… Be open minded but don’t exaggerate… You are an African woman…,” ama_asantini stated.

However, one follower tried to break down the post.

“Y’all missing the point. She is trying to say that Africans tend to worry more about who is gay and who is not gay but ignoring kids literally kids sniffing drugs so they won’t feel hungry, this is more concerning in her ( and my ) opinion,” aphoen1x tried to clear the post.
