Artis Leon Ivey Jr., better known as Coolio, was an American rapper who was born on August 1, 1963.

Coolio rose to prominence as a member of the gangsta rap duo WC and the Maad Circle before breaking out as a solo artist in the mid-to-late 1990s with his albums It Takes a Thief, Gangsta’s Paradise, and My Sou.

When Ivey was eight years old, his mother divorced his carpenter’s father and moved to Compton. As a child, Ivey, who suffered from severe asthma, was a frequent visitor to his local library.

As a teenager, he began rapping and earned the nickname Coolio Iglesias, after Spanish musician Julio Iglesias, which was later abbreviated to Coolio. He was arrested for taking a firearm to school and then sentenced to prison for stealing.

He was charged with robbery with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery, first-degree kidnapping with a dangerous weapon, burglary with a deadly weapon, and grand theft.

In November of last year, a peculiar series of events led to the arrest of Coolio’s errant son. These strange occurrences began with a prostitute and finished with a routine robbery.

According to police investigations, Shantrice Wilkerson, the prostitute, persuaded a man named Joseph Hall to bring her to his apartment from the Luxor nightclub after the two of them met in October.
