Greg Norman who led the charge for the controversial Saudi backed LIV Golf Tournament, serving as the CEO has been snubbed from participating in the British Open.

He had earlier been disinvited from joining in the Celebrations of Champions and attending the Championship’s dinner.

Norman, whose two wins have come in Open Tournaments in 1986 and 1993 is set miss his first Open in years as the rift between the R&A and the organizers and participants of the LIV Golf tournament continue.

The R&A in a statement claimed the 150th Open was a very important milestone for golf and as such the off the course antics of the 67-year-old Norman has been deemed not in the best interest of golf and its heritage at the moment and his presence would therefore be an unwelcomed distraction.

Reports claim the winner of this year’s Open will earn a record breaking two million pounds, in a move described as a statement of intent in the aftermath of the LIV Golf series.
