Grass fire causes Surrey to declare a “major incident”

A significant incident has been declared in Surrey due to a sizable grass fire that has burned at least eight hectares of property.

In the scene at Hankley Common, close to Farnham, there are numerous fire trucks from the fire department.

Due to the heavy smoke, people have been advised to stay away from the area, close all windows and doors, and confine pets inside.

Enfield, Hayes, Thamesmead, and the community of Burgate in north Suffolk have all reported field fires as well.

People in Surrey have reported seeing smoke over Guildford, Woking, Addlestone, as well as on the M25 close to Chertsey.

Just after noon, firefighters were called, and according to the fire department, crews would likely be on the scene until at least Monday. There is no known cause.

According to the service, a lot of smoke was spreading around the area.

It added that a great volume of calls were coming into its control room, and incidents were being handled. People are asked not to report smoke clouds at this time, but rather to call 999 only if they witness a fire.

Thursley Road had been closed while Surrey Police stated that it was aiding fire departments. While emergency services responded to the situation, the cops asked that people remain away.
