The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has assured the creative arts sector of significant improvements if he is elected as the next president of Ghana.
During an engagement with members of the creative arts industry on Friday, June 7, Mahama pledged to address the challenges facing the sector and implement solutions to enhance its growth. He also highlighted several initiatives that were implemented during his previous term in office but have been neglected under the current government.
Mahama emphasized the need for government investment in the creative sector, stating, “…we are going to find those solutions together. In the past, we have tried to assist by providing cars to some of you who were using basic transport means. Unfortunately, the program was not continued after we left office, and I have heard that some of the cars were even seized from you, which is regrettable.”
The former president also drew attention to the legacy of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who believed in the importance of the creative arts and allocated resources to support the sector. Mahama expressed his belief that the government should prioritize funding for the creative arts to facilitate its growth and development.
