President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo emphasized the noteworthy advancements in decentralization reforms since 1988, resulting in a better relationship between the government and the people than ever before.
In order to strengthen local legislative, executive, and deliberative processes, the President emphasized the vital role that District Assembly Members play.
In order to work with urban, town, zonal, and area councils, unit committees, traditional authority, and other groupings, President Akufo-Addo urged Assembly Members to establish strong partnerships with local entities.
He emphasized that in order to maximize the goals of local governance and serve the populace, such partnerships were crucial.
The President urged Members to come up with creative ways to raise money for the development of their individual districts in response to the need for better resource mobilization.
In an inaugural speech given on his behalf in Hohoe by Dr. Eric Oduro Osae, President Akufo-Addo stated, “It is through these partnerships and collaborations that the ideals of local governance are optimized for the benefit of the people.”
He emphasized that the government, through the redesigned Institute of Local Government Studies, is committed to enhancing Members’ capacities.
In addition to urging the Assembly to set up venues like town hall meetings and digital tools for citizen interaction, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the significance of public participation in the development process.
The chief executive of Hohoe municipality, Mr. Daniel Noble Awume, expressed confidence in the members’ dedication to the town’s expansion and advancement.
Assuring them of the Assembly’s complete support and logistical assistance to carry out their mandate, he urged them to contribute to the goal of raising living standards both within and outside of the Hohoe Municipality.
In a historic event, 25 members—17 elected and 8 government appointees—were sworn in. Of these, 259 District Assemblies have been established around the country; the Nkoranza South Municipal and Nkoranza North District Assemblies are the only ones that have not yet finished their terms in office.
