A cross-party committee of MPs and peers has suggested that the government hire a travelling “tsar” to cut through the bureaucracy that British musicians must deal with throughout Europe.
They would have to deal with the rising fees that bands have experienced since Brexit for acquiring visas and shipping instruments.
According to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Music, some orchestras incur expenses of £5,000 each time they perform abroad.
It was noted that the industry was in “crisis” and needed to take “urgent” action.
The warning was made in a significant research on the state of touring after Brexit, which cautioned that since the UK left the EU at the end of January 2020, musicians and their crew would “face more costs, more problems, and getting fewer possibilities.”
In April, the rock group White Lies tragically learned of the circumstance.
The group, who has a sizable live fan base in Europe, was forced to postpone the opening show of their 2022 tour when their equipment became entangled in border inspections at Dover.
