Gonzalo Ariel Montiel, a right-back for La Liga team Sevilla and the Argentina national team, was born in Argentina on January 1, 1997.
Montiel began his professional career at the River Plate academy. At the age of 19, he made his debut for the club’s first team on April 30, 2016. In the 2016-17 season, he began to see first-team action, appearing in four games. He would play an important role in Copa Argentina that season. He’d win the trophy after playing every game from the last 16 to the final, in which his team defeated CA Tucumán.
The defender also excelled in the Copa Libertadores, scoring a goal and assisting three others while playing every minute from the quarter-finals to the semi-finals, where River Plate was defeated by Lans.
Montiel took a big step forward in his career during the 2017-18 season. He appeared in 35 games, fifteen of which were league matches. What stood out were his fourteen appearances in the Copa Libertadores against Boca Juniors at the Santiago Bernabeu. The team was on the verge of repeating last year’s Copa Argentina victory when they were eliminated on penalties in the semi-finals against Gimnasia. That season, the team completed a hat trick by defeating Boca Juniors in the Argentine Super Cup.
