Friends of an immigrant from Ghana who was murdered in an indiscriminate shooting in Toronto, Canada’s largest city, are collecting money to help his family in Ghana.
On February 17, after being shot by an assailant at a bus stop, Adu Boakye passed away while being admitted to the hospital.
To gather money for Boakye’s burial and his family in Ghana, one of his friends, Richardson Adorsu, set up a GoFundMe campaign.
Out of the 40,000 CAD target, over 490 donors have contributed over 28,598 Canadian dollars at the time this report was filed. It totals more than $21,000 USD.
New information regarding the death was revealed in the fundraiser’s introduction, such as the fact that he was ready to send money to Ghana at the time of the shooting and the quantity of bullets that struck him.
On Saturday, February 24, the vigil for Boakye was held at a bus shelter across from the Driftwood Community Center. The mayor of Toronto was present.

In search of a better life for himself and his family, Adu Boakye immigrated to Canada. Standing at the bus stop at Jane and Driftwood, waiting for the bus to leave so he could send money to his wife in Ghana, Adu was shot.
He was shot in the stomach twice by a masked assailant, who then fell on him and shot him in the face once more.
Adu supported his four children and his aging parents as the main breadwinner in the household.
A family that lives so far away and is unable to come here to say goodbye to Adu is deeply saddened by this tragic circumstance.
