Go to court if you disagree with decision to appoint caucus leaders – Bagbin

Parliamentary Speaker Alban Bagbin has urged lawmakers who don’t agree with his recommendations regarding the appointment of caucus leaders to file a complaint.

The majority caucus in Parliament does not have the power to choose its leaders without the political party in charge of the process’s supervision, as Alban Bagbin made clear on Wednesday, February 21.

The Speaker emphasized during his speech on the floor of parliament how important it is for political parties to direct and have an impact on the choices made by the majority when it comes to leadership.

As reports suggest that the ruling party is planning to replace the leaders of its majority caucus in Parliament, the Speaker has clarified the situation.

Until a court of competent jurisdiction finds otherwise, he maintained, all MPs are bound by the parliamentary protocol.

“I will provide a written explanation for this house, but for now, this is the speaker’s stance on the matter. And I do so by the same standard directives: in cases of uncertainty, the speaker’s word is final.

“If you don’t agree with that, you can challenge my viewpoint by going to the appropriate forum. You come with the party ticket, and the party has to take the lead in the process of choosing your leader.

“You go to the courts to get it changed if you disagree with me. However, as of right now, all of you are bound by this. How you manage that without the party or parties, I’m not sure.
