He had Recurrent Ventricular Tachycardia caused by Myotonic Dystrophy type II.
Gottfried was noted for his caustic humor, political incorrectness, and shrill voice, which helped bring to life a variety of animated creatures he played.
Some of the creatures included Iago the parrot in Disney’s Aladdin, Digit the robotic bird in PBS Kids’ Cyberchase, and the Aflac duck in insurance company advertisements.
Gottfried became a frequent on celebrity roasts and game programs in the 2000s and 2010s.
He has performed in Comedy Central roasts of Bob Saget, Joan Rivers, David Hasselhoff, Donald Trump, and Roseanne Barr.
