Renowned Ghanaian actor, journalist, and former Information Minister Fritz Baffour has called out Ghanaians for only celebrating “foolish people” and neglecting to honor cultural icons. Baffour made these remarks during an interview with Citi TV at a press soiree held on May 31 in anticipation of the James Barnor 95 Festival on June 6.

James Barnor, a pioneering Ghanaian photographer, who was the first photographer-journalist to collaborate with The Daily Graphic, is set to be honored at the festival. Despite his significant contributions to showcasing Ghanaian culture and heritage to the world, Baffour believes that Barnor has not received the recognition he deserves in his own country.

Baffour criticized the Ghanaian society for prioritizing politics and material things over celebrating individuals like Barnor, who have showcased the nation’s rich cultural heritage. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging and celebrating the achievements of those who have positively impacted society.

The James Barnor 95 Festival is not only a tribute to the iconic photographer but also a celebration of cultural heritage and artistic innovation. Born in Ghana in 1929, Barnor established the renowned Ever Young studio in Accra, where he captured the essence of the country at the time of its independence.

Baffour urged Ghanaians to embrace a sense of national pride and unity, transcending political and social divides. He emphasized the need for tolerance and collaboration to build a stronger and more cohesive society.

As Ghana prepares to celebrate the James Barnor 95 Festival, it is an opportunity for the nation to reflect on its cultural heritage and the contributions of individuals like Barnor to the artistic and cultural landscape. It is a call for Ghanaians to shift their focus to celebrating and honoring those who have made a lasting impact on society.
