Young talent Ernest Poku, who was born in the Netherlands but has Ghanaian roots, made a significant impact in AZ Alkmaar’s recent Eredivisie match against NEC Nijmegen.
Despite not being in the starting lineup, the 20-year-old attacker came off the bench in the 90th minute and immediately made his presence felt.
Poku replaced his fellow Ghanaian teammate Ibrahim Sadiq and wasted no time in getting involved in the action. In the dying moments of the game, Poku managed to get his name on the scoresheet, helping his team secure a convincing 3-0 away win at the Goffertstadion.
The visitors took the lead early in the match, with Dani de Wit scoring in the 16th minute to give AZ Alkmaar the advantage going into halftime. In the second half, the team continued their dominance, with Vangelis Pavlidis adding a second goal in the 58th minute before Poku sealed the victory with his injury-time goal.
Poku, who has dual Dutch-Ghanaian nationality, has been a key player for AZ Alkmaar this season, contributing one goal and four assists in 19 appearances in the Eredivisie.
