Kwasi Poku, the talented Canadian-born Ghanaian striker for Forge FC, has been honored by being named to the Canadian Premier League’s Gatorade Team of the Week for Week 16.
Poku showcased his skills in Forge FC’s impressive 3-0 victory over Halifax Wanderers FC on July 27. The striker netted two goals in the match, marking his third brace in the past seven games. This outstanding performance not only brought his total goals to eight for the season but also put him in the running for the league’s Golden Boot award.
In the 15th minute, Poku opened the scoring with a left-footed strike from close range, following an assist from David Choinière. He then doubled Forge FC’s lead in the 28th minute, converting a set piece opportunity. Ghanaian forward Nana Ampomah further solidified the win with a remarkable right-footed goal from outside the box in the 69th minute, assisted by Choinière during a swift counterattack.
As a result of this victory, Forge FC’s head-to-head record against HFX Wanderers now stands at nine wins, four losses, and nine draws. Poku has been a standout player this season, contributing eight goals and two assists in 15 games. Additionally, Ampomah, who has played five matches, has scored one goal and provided one assist.
