Ghanaian music producer, Spiky, has emerged victorious in his battle for intellectual property rights against the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The commercial court in Accra ruled that CAF had used Spiky’s music without legal permission for promotional materials for the 2018 CAF awards.

Spiky, whose real name is Kwabena Ofei-Kwadey Nkrumah, expressed his disappointment at CAF’s disregard for his intellectual property rights, which resulted in a loss of potential revenue from licensing his music for commercial use.

Prior to taking legal action, Spiky had called out CAF in 2029 for copyright infringement on social media.

Despite admitting to the offense, CAF argued that the music was available for free download online and claimed they did not use it for profit-making purposes.

They also stated that they had deleted the work from their social media platforms and issued an apology to Spiky.
